Before giving advice, ask what kind of help they actually want.
Through the theme of Jupiter, look at how you learn and make judgments. Read about your own reason for doing what you do, what to ask before offering advice, and how to actually put what you’ve learned to use.

Think Through Why You Actually Want to Do This
Even a choice everyone else says is good can be hard to act on if you don’t understand why it actually matters to you. The Jupiter story encourages asking not just “what will I gain?” but also “what do I want to learn?”
Sometimes the drive to find the “right” answer just makes a decision heavier than it needs to be. Sticking to your very first standard forever isn’t what makes you consistent. Revising your thinking through a new experience is itself part of getting to know what actually matters to you.
Ask myself
Separate the reason you’d give someone else from the reason you actually want to do it.

Before Giving Advice, Ask What Kind of Help Is Actually Needed
When someone close to you shares a worry, you might want to jump straight to solving it. Before that, ask: “Do you want me to just listen right now, or figure out what to do together?” The kind of help they actually want and the kind you’re used to giving can be two different things.
To hold onto the joy of learning from each other in a relationship, you also need to be able to say you don’t know. Listen to the reasoning behind someone else’s different choice, and remember that a standard that matters to you might not matter the same way to them.
Ask myself
Before you start giving advice, check what kind of help they actually want.

Actually Put What You Learned to Use
The longer your study plan, lecture list, or reading pile gets, the more prepared you can feel. But actually using what you’ve learned once is what reveals what you understood and what’s still hard. Apply a concept you learned today to one example, or explain it to someone else.
Looking at a big goal can make where you’re standing right now feel tiny. Rather than just measuring the distance left to go, find something you couldn’t do last month that you can do now. Keeping concrete evidence of your growth also lets you make your next decision more realistically.
Ask myself
Turn one thing you recently learned into a small finished thing, or an explanation for someone else.

Don’t Try to Grow Even Through Your Time Off
If you feel like even your downtime has to be productive, your whole day can start to feel like it’s being graded. Learning matters, but not every experience needs a growth narrative attached to it. Doing something just because you enjoy it is also part of who you are.
It’s fine to sit with not knowing the answer for a while. Leave a question open that doesn’t need settling right now, and go about your day — a new experience might change your thinking for you. Not knowing something right now doesn’t mean you have to conclude it immediately.
Ask myself
Pick one thing you want to enjoy, without weighing whether it’ll actually help you.

วันพฤหัสบดี
Thursday: Jupiter, the deer, and a day of orange
Thursday (วันพฤหัสบดี, wan Phruehat) belongs to Jupiter. The name “Phruehatsabodi” comes from Brihaspati, handed down as the teacher of the gods. Its guardian animal is the deer and its color is orange. On the taksa diagram Jupiter sits in the west and is number 5. Jupiter has long been read as a symbol of learning, teaching, and wisdom, so Thursday is regarded as a day for study and teachers.
Thursday’s Buddha image is the seated meditation posture with crossed legs, Pang Samathi (ปางสมาธิ). Depending on the source it is also called Pang Trat Sa Ru (ปางตรัสรู้, the awakening posture) or Pang Khat Samathi Phet (ปางขัดสมาธิเพชร). It captures the moment under the Bodhi tree when the Buddha settled, unshaken, into deep meditation and attained awakening. It is the best-known form of the Buddha image, and you will meet it in temples again and again.
In Thailand Thursday is regarded as a day for honoring teachers, and school wai khru (ไหว้ครู) ceremonies are often held on a Thursday. Orange is a warm color that recalls the sky at dusk and the robes of monks, and so it sits naturally with the mood of Thursday. A small item, like an orange notebook or a pair of orange accent socks, is one way to cheer on a day of learning.
The Thursday star asks, “Where do I truly want to learn and grow?” This piece introduces tradition and cultural background; it is not a reading that tells you about exam results or a career path. Please read it keeping in mind that colors or the names of Buddha images can differ by region and by teacher.
In the taksa, the planet of Thursday takes the first seat and the eight bodies are laid out in a fixed order. The chart for someone born on Thursday places Jupiter in the seat of The People Around Me, Rahu in Life Force, Venus in Influence, the Sun in Fortune, the Moon in Foundation, Mars in Effort, Mercury in People Who Help You, and Saturn in What to Watch Carefully. This layout is carried over from a published traditional table, and this site only reads the color of each planet from it. Please remember that astrologers interpret even the same table differently, and that no seat is fixed as good or bad.
