Deciding what to actually finish matters as much as starting fast.

Through the theme of Mars, look at how you turn thoughts into action. Read about how to start something you’ve been putting off, and what to check before making a rushed decision.

01 / 04

Things You Can’t Know Until You Try

When you’ve thought it through and still can’t land on an answer, a small action generates new information. Pick something reversible even if it fails — one inquiry, a short practice run, a first draft. The Mars story focuses on exactly that small burst of momentum.

Moving fast and moving in a direction that actually matters aren’t the same thing. Check whether you’re just packing your schedule to avoid a thought you don’t want to sit with. Rather than adding more things to start, it’s fine to just settle on the one thing you actually want to finish.

Ask myself

Break down whatever you’re putting off into the smallest reversible action you can take.

02 / 04

Before Saying Something That Matters, Ask If Now Is a Good Time

Wanting to resolve a frustrating situation quickly is natural. But you being ready to talk doesn’t mean the other person is in the same place. Just checking “is it okay to talk about this now?” can help your honest words actually land.

When opinions clash, look for a problem to solve together rather than a point to win. Instead of “Why are you always like this?” try naming the actual moment: “When plans change, it’s hard for me to get ready.” Sometimes what’s needed isn’t a fast conclusion but time to check you both actually understood the same thing.

Ask myself

Before an important conversation, ask whether they actually have the room for it right now.

03 / 04

How to Carry a First Try All the Way Through

Trying a new tool, signing up to present, learning by just diving in — these lower the pressure of starting. If you’re stuck imagining the finished version, just build the smallest version you can show today.

Once you’ve started, the repetition might not be as exciting as the beginning. Don’t leave it up to motivation alone — leave your next action visible. Write down what you’ll do in the first 10 minutes tomorrow before you stop today, and you won’t have to work up the resolve to start all over again.

Ask myself

Leave yourself one thing to do the moment you sit down to work tomorrow.

04 / 04

Pausing for a Moment Doesn’t Kill Your Momentum

On a day when nothing’s going your way, you might want to push even harder. Check whether what’s actually needed is more effort, or a change of direction. If you keep hitting the same wall, pause and look at the actual cause — it can help you find a different way through.

Sort out what doesn’t actually need an answer or a decision right this second. Even a small gap — rereading a message before you send it, checking this week’s schedule before locking in a new plan — can change the choice you end up making.

Ask myself

For one thing you’re tempted to decide in a rush, set a time to look at it again.

วันอังคาร

Tuesday: Mars, the buffalo, and a day of pink

Tuesday (วันอังคาร, wan Angkhan) is the day of Mars. The name “Angkhan” comes from the Sanskrit Angāraka, meaning a glowing coal. Mars’s guardian animal is the buffalo (กระบือ), and Tuesday’s color is pink. Some sources describe the body of the Mars deity as reddish gold. On the taksa diagram Mars sits in the southeast and is number 3.

Tuesday’s Buddha image is the reclining posture, Pang Saiyat (ปางไสยาสน์). It comes from the scene at Kusinara where the Buddha lies on his right side as he enters final nirvana, and it is among the best-known reclining Buddhas in Thai temples. Some temples and sources instead place Pang Prot Asurinthrahu (ปางโปรดอสุรินทราหู) on Tuesday, a posture that carries the tale of a towering asura king who humbled his heart before the Buddha’s great form.

It is fun that the color of a day with such a fiery name is a soft pink. Many people in Thailand wear pink on Tuesdays, and pink is received as a color that is lively yet kind. On days when you need courage, you could simply add a little energy with a small item, like a pink handkerchief or pair of socks.

The Tuesday star is a story that asks, “Shall I take one step on the thing I have only been thinking about?” This is cultural background only; it does not claim anything about today’s luck or a person’s temperament. Please also keep in mind that details of the Buddha image or the color can differ by region and by teacher.

In the taksa, the planet of Tuesday takes the first seat and the eight bodies are laid out in a fixed order. The chart for someone born on Tuesday places Mars in the seat of The People Around Me, Mercury in Life Force, Saturn in Influence, Jupiter in Fortune, Rahu in Foundation, Venus in Effort, the Sun in People Who Help You, and the Moon in What to Watch Carefully. This layout is carried over from a published traditional table, and this site only reads the color of each planet from it. Please remember that astrologers interpret even the same table differently, and that no seat is fixed as good or bad.
